e finally got a small group together for some shooting. I think finding out about a
decent location had a lot to do with it.

I got to shoot my AR for the first time and it was pretty sweet; knocked down some bowling pins at 100
yards with the BUIS (no optics just yet). The suppressor made it fairly quiet too; though not as quiet as my
Buckmark, of course. I also tested my PPK/S back from the factory-- it worked flawlessly,
much to my relief. I got to try Todd's Ruger LCP, which has a ridiculous long trigger pull, but
proved to be very accurate. I also tried Jim's AK, which I had less accuracy with than the LCP!

ince I had some time on my hands, I thought I'd try the WoW 10-day trial. Hard to bash
on WoW without trying it, so I thought I'd give it a go. |
| But when I tried Ventrilo on my little P1620, I got BSODs pointing to splitter.sys.
Next I went into System Properties, Advanced Tab, Startup and Recovery Settings--unchecked Automatically restart and changed the debugging write to
Complete memory dump. | |
|
Next I tried to connect on Ventrilo and got blue screens, now pointing
at RtkHDAud.sys (which made more sense right there) with varying stop addresses. After installing .NET v4 and
downloading Debugging Tools from the Windows SDK, I used the debugger to analyze the minidump
and throw it in a text file:
cd c:\program files\debugging tools for windows (x86)
kd -z C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini091310-02.dmp
.logopen c:\debuglog.txt
.sympath srv*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
.reload;!analyze -v;r;kv;lmnt;.logclose;q
I got this debuglog.... hmmm, looks like a problem with my Realtek driver, not
that I know anything about debugging. Didn't need to install .NET v4 for that!
So, I check Fujitsu's site and there's nothing new there (5.10.0.5845), so I go to Realtek's site and grab
their
HD audio driver (WDM_R252.exe). I get a few errors with the executable and try the driver only archive.
After extracting and running setup, I roll through, though I do get a blue screen on reboot:
IO SYSTEM VERIFICATION ERROR IN FUJ02B1.sys (WDM DRIVER ERROR 20f)
[FUJ02B1.sys+a5e at F79BBA5e]
After rebooting, Ventrilo works and I'm sitting on 5.10.0.6194 instead of 5845. But I got stuck
after the XP splash screen a few times (mouse moved, but never got past black screen).
Hmm... I'd messed with "driver verification on" earlier and it didn't give me problems before,
but whatever... ran verifier.exe and set it to just verify atapi.sys and rebooted again.
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process terminated unexpectedly with a staus of
0xc000000d (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.
That didn't look good at all, so I rebooted and... everything is good... so far!

haven't endured a summer in Biloxi since 1995, and back then, all my classes were inside.
Not RF Transmissions... plenty of time outside, which, coupled with my bad back, made for some
really unfun days in the sun.

I'm trying to think of something good about this visit, but the only thing I can muster is
having met some interesting people.
By the way, it looks like AF recruiting is putting on a really heavy spin these days. At first
I wondered if it's a generational thing, what with all the hoorah/fit to fight/etc, but I've
noticed some billboards and commercials that make sense of it. No wonder kids these days are
scared to join the Air Force thinking they're going to get killed in combat!

here are your tax dollars going? I dunno. How about sending me to Electronics Principles... FOR THE THIRD TIME! |
So they send me here on TDY orders and then change them to PCS order AFTER I get here!
New policy is that anything over 139 days should be a PCS, so all my per diem went bye bye.
Small world: One of my classmates, Bob Powell, happens to be a new member of the 242 CBCS. I also ran into a guy who was in the 352nd MXS after I left...who had the pleasure of meeting the infamous Tony T. Needless to say, I had his sympathy.
